Here at Prospect, we want to celebrate our favourite independent cafes in Berkshire who have been bringing us amazing takeaway food, drinks and activities over lockdown. Whether you are itching to get back out for a sit down coffee and a cake or you would still feel more comfortable with a takeaway, these guys have you covered with afternoon teas, waffles to go, breakfast boxes, pottery painting and so much more.

Robyn’s Nest, Moss End

Why we love it: Robyn’s Nest has really dazzled us with their extensive range of takeaway boxes! Young or old, sweet tooth or savoury fan, this independent café in Moss End garden village has something that will brighten up anyone’s day during lockdown. If you’re looking to treat a loved one (or yourself), you can choose from a classic afternoon tea, a decadent brownie box or a ‘Taste of Winter’ box, which includes an array of cheeses, chutneys, pork pies, sausage rolls and other savoury treats. They also have Christmas themed children’s teas that will make the perfect treat for your little ones on Christmas Eve!
Fego, Ascot

Why we love it: Fego our favourite places in Ascot to go for brunch, not only for the top quality dishes but also for the fun, welcoming and laid back atmosphere. During lockdown, Fego have maintained their feel-good ethos and have worked hard to deliver the same great atmosphere to your homes!
Takeaway breakfast, lunch, dinner and sweet treats are on offer, but that’s not all. This café restaurant have also worked hard to bring us great music playlists, a mouth-watering wine menu and even the option to add a family game to your takeaway, bringing some light-hearted fun to these unprecedented times. Blue Orchid Bakery, Wokingham

Why we love it: From Waffle Wednesdays to Hot Cookie Fridays, Blue Orchid bakery in Wokingham has kept us going all through the week with their delicious treats! Having just released their Christmas menu, the café is offering festive afternoon teas to takeaway, yummy warm mince pies and even a family-sized quiche which is available to pre-order for Christmas Eve or Christmas day collection.

Drifters Coffee House, Henley on Thames

Why we love it: With a focus on local produce, sustainability and plant based goods, this independent coffee house in Henley specialises in ‘great coffee, good tunes, homemade cakes, real vibes’! They have managed to keep smiles on our faces throughout the year, offering fruit and veg boxes, veggie and vegan breakfast boxes and even a pantry box – perfect if everyone starts stockpiling on pasta again! Not only this, but they have also managed to put on their famous swiss fondue night by hand delivering cheese fondue sets to their customers’ homes – and with all the sides you could ever want!

The Ugly Duckling Pottery Painting Coffee House, Newbury
Where: 2-3 Bartholomew St, Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 5LL
Why we love it: This independent pottery painting coffee house in Newbury is encouraging us to get creative in our own home with their takeaway pottery boxes and coffee to go! Paint yourself a new gravy boat ready for Christmas dinner, design a bespoke mug for a loved one, create a unique bauble for your Christmas tree or paint a beautiful gingerbread house to hold your tealights. With such an expansive catalogue of ceramic products to paint, you could never get bored of designing your own home accessories and Christmas presents!
Their items are available for Click and Collect from the Newbury shop or delivery, and can be brought back in for firing from Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm. The Foxes’ Den Café, Binfield
Where: Benetfeld Rd, Binfield, Bracknell RG42 4EW
Why we love it: Raising money for the royal British legion and Children in Need with their delicious cupcakes, this café based in the heart of Binfield has real community spirit. The Foxes’ Den gets stuck in with events and activities in the local area, providing maps for the Binfield scarecrow hunt and holding the annual Macmillan coffee morning fundraiser. And aside from bringing us Christmas pudding hot chocolate, homemade mince pies and cupcakes in a range of different flavours, they also offer ‘foxy lunches’ all year round for any family that is struggling. A truly wonderful community café!
Two Sisters Café, Crowthorne
Where: 165 High Street, Crowthorne, RG45 7AF
Why we love it: The independent café in Crowthorne offers some of the most incredible graze boxes, with one for every occasion and every recipient. The Afternoon teas make the perfect accompaniment to a virtual work Christmas do; the cinema graze box is an excellent treat for the kids; the discovery graze box would make for a deliciously indulgent weekend; and the sweet graze box is perfect for a romantic night in.
And that’s not all they do - Two Sisters café also offer an array of delicious cakes, sandwiches and great coffee that can even be flavoured with alcoholic or non-alcoholic baileys syrup! Their bakery includes a range of sweet and savoury treats available to order and collect the next day, with sourdough bread and pies taking 2 days.
